Last night I finished reading H.G. Wells' Love and Mr. Lewisham it might now be my favorite book of his. It was one of the most realistic portrayals of love or romance I've read since Ding Ling's "Miss Sophie's Diary".

There is a lot of raw emotion in the pages, and irrationality and changes of heart that you don't normally expect from Wells/5. Love and Mr. Lewisham is the story of a young man who seeks to better himself and achieve glory through educational achievements.

Lewisham thought little of Love but much on Greatness. Over the head of the bed, for example, where good folks hang texts, these truths asserted themselves, written in a clear, bold, youthfully florid hand:–“Knowledge is Power,” and “What man has done man can do,”–man in the second instance referring to Mr 3/5(1).

Love and Mr. Lewisham draws heavily on the author’s personal life. The book introduces Mr. Lewisham, a young and highly ambitious assistant schoolmaster in a small school in Sussex, where he meets and falls in love with Ethel Henderson, a young lady.

Beth Bennett. An ambitious young man faces contrasts between dreams and reality, mental compatibility and emotional attachment, idealism and practical integrity, and solitary vs. connected identity in an accessible and brutally honest coming of age story that is as relevant as if it was published this morning/5(18).

Wells considered it one of his best efforts; "both author and many of his critics combine in agreeing that Love and Mr. Lewisham is among his five or six best books" (G.H.

Wells 17). A very excellent book to read, very light and easy, looking at young love, hopes and dreams for the future mixed with the reality of what actually happens.

Lewisham is in love but at every turn life and Edwardian society seems to thwart their attempts to spend time together.

Until one day Lewisham impulsivly follows the advice of a /5(). Love and Mr. Lewisham. Wells. 3 (1 Review) Free Download.
